Bingie Bingie Point is a significant place for the traditional custodians of the land. Hidden away from the water are evidence of shell middens, stone working areas and quarries providing strong links to Aboriginal culture. Extending 13.5km from Congo to Tuross Head across the Eurobodalla Coastline, the Bingie Dreaming Track traces a Songline of the Brinja-Yuin people that is more than 20,000 years old. This trail, located within Eurobodalla National Park, can now be experienced as an independent or Aboriginal-guided walk, with extensive opportunities for birdwatching, wildlife spotting and even whale watching (during the May to November months) with vantage points dotted along the way.

Mullimburra Point is composed of resilient 400-million-year-old granite. The rock collection in this area is very rare, with granite and diorite rocks prominent, and black volcanic basalt laying around as well, providing for some unique photographs. It is surrounded by four beaches, one on the north side and three south, all located in the national park.

Venture further, and you can visit the extinct volcano known as Gulaga (Mount Dromedary), a deeply spiritual women’s place of ancestral origin for Yuin people, with the mountain symbolising the mother figure. Opt for a guided tour or independent hike for this 14km round-trip and take in the summit views and magnitude of Gulaga.

Somnium acknowledges and respects the traditional custodians of the land at Bingie Bingie Point, and during your stay, we encourage you to explore and discover more about the Aboriginal culture and significance engrained here.

All 4 Bingie beaches are located within 2 kms from Somnium property.

ABORIGINAL SIGNIFICANCE OF BINGI DREAMING TRACK

Somnium at Bingie

Stretching 13.5km along the magnificent Eurobodalla coastline, from Congo in the north to Tuross Head in the south, the Bingie Dreaming Track is more than just a scenic coastal walk. Tracing an ancient Songline of the Brinja-Yuin people, this trail located in Eurobodalla National Park is a deeply significant place for the area’s Traditional Aboriginal Custodians, whose ancestors have lived on the NSW South Coast for at least 20,000 years. Here’s how to make the most of it.

EXPERIENCE GULAGA, MOTHER MOUNTAIN

Somnium at Bingie

Rising up in the southwest of Eurobodalla, the extinct volcano known as Gulaga (Mount Dromedary) is as magnificent as it is spiritual.

The place of ancestral origin for Yuin people, the region’s Aboriginal Custodians, the mountain symbolises a mother figure and has traditionally been an important women’s place. Look closely, and you can see Gulaga just as the Yuin people have for tens of thousands of years – as a pregnant woman lying down. Here’s how to experience Mother Mountain respectfully.
